This just in: Experian speaks about Hurricane Katrina plans

EXPERIAN, EQUIFAX, AND TRANSUNION NEWS
I spoke with Don Girard, media manager for Experian just now. He mentioned that the scope of this problem is enormous and that Experian has been moving as quickly as possible to work out a solution for the crisis victims of Hurricane Katrina.

He mentioned that the scope of the problem that he's dealing with is based on four different states:
• Florida
• Alabama
• Mississippi
• Louisiana

This is a wider scope than I had originally thought.

EXPERIAN, EQUIFAX, AND TRANSUNION WORKING TOGETHER!!
Mr Girard mentioned that Experian, Equifax and TransUnion are working together as a single unit to develop a mutual solution that help the Hurricane Katrina disaster victims. He didn't mentioned if this collaboration was unprecedented or not. Normally this is a pretty aggressive industry. It's wonderful to see the big three working together like this. Other than saying that the big three are working
together, he didn't give me any details as to what their plans actually were.

CREDIT BUREAUS ROLL OUT PLAN BY SEPTEMBER 14, 2005 OR SHORTLY THEREAFTER.
Mr Girard, did mention however that they plan to roll out their plan by the middle (September 14, 2005) or end of next week.

Mr Girard mentioned that Experian is working with all of their banks, credit card, and other creditor counterparts to make sure that everybody is on the same page. This has got to be a huge task as all parties involved are heavily run by software systems and data systems.

IDENTITY THEFT A PROBLEM
Mr Girard expressed a deep concern for a huge potential problem of identity theft. Crooks stealing identities from people houses, places of business and 'identity items just floating down the street'. This is going to be an unprecedented task to confirm people's actual identities given the circumstances.

EXPERIAN DONATES MONEY TO HELP AND IS PART OF COMMUNITY
Mr Girard explained that Experian has donated a 'generous amount of money' for the Hurricane Katrina victims at both a corporate level and an employee level. He mentioned that Experian has always been involved with communities across the U.S.

This is exceptionally good news. I am ecstatic to hear that Experian, Equifax and TransUnion are working together to develop plans and solutions to help the Hurricane Katrina victims in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE NEXT WEEK
I'll give you an update when I get Experian's official press release next week.

So far this is the most communication that I've received from the big three credit bureaus. I'll try to contact TransUnion and Equifax in the next few days to see what they're planning.

I wonder for how long and far the three credit bureaus will work together. It's got to be on fairly superficial level.

It's nice to see this type of progress though.

I am pleased with the communications that I was able to receive from Don Girard. He seems to be the top guy for media and communications over at Experian.

I'm hoping this will be the good start to a long relationship with the media departments of Experian, Equifax and TransUnion

I would very happy to be a reporting outlet for them on this blog.
